Industry Insights | Italy Ride Out Coronavirus Epidem thanks to 3d printing technology

3D Printing Technology will be a new type of technology to join people to fight with the virus battle together. As the Coronavirus spread to most of the countries overseas, especially Italy is going through a difficult time. Professionals try everything they can do to help fight with the virus together. During this time, 3d printing technology will really play a really important part of this Battle.

Last Thursday, a local hospital in Chiari, in the province of Brescia, in the Lombardy region of northern Italy, urgently needed a special valve for breathing oxygen on breathing equipment to help patients who came to ICU due to a coronavirus.

However, this kind of valve is particularly expensive and very out of stock to see how it was solved at the time. the price of this valve is 10,000 Euros or about 77,000 yuan. However, because Italy is now considered the hardest-hit area of the new crown virus, this kind of thing is not enough. The price is not the biggest problem. The problem is that it is out of stock and the original manufacturer of the valve cannot supply it in the short term.

In the end, this matter caught the attention of Massimo Temporelli, founder of Fablab in Milan. He and Cristian Fracassi, the founder of a 3D printing startup, responded immediately and discussed solutions together.

They initially sought the help of the original manufacturer to share the relevant 3D files, which was not only rejected but also threatened with patent infringement. Life is dead, Christian goes on and creates 3D files from scratch. He led employees to measure, size, redesign, and then 3D print using three different technologies FDM (Fused Deposition Manufacturing), SLS(Selective Laser Sintering) SLA(Stereolithography).

Finally, the usable valve was successfully printed after 6 hours, and the cost price was only 1 euro, which is one ten-thousandth of the original cost. Although it is not good in terms of durability, it is cheap and can be replaced repeatedly. This may be the best way to run out of resources now.

The most prominent advantage of 3D printing technology is that it can generate parts of any shape directly from computer graphics data without machining or any mold, which greatly shortens the product development cycle, improves productivity and reduces production costs, and greatly reduces material waste.

3D printing will replace a large part of the manufacturing industry in the future. It is relatively simple and low-tech. The industry will become more and more standardized. The sophisticated manufacturing cannot be replaced, but simple 3D printing can be replaced.

Creality, as a leading 3d printing manufacturer in China, We have done a number of measures to help and prevent this virus and will keep endeavor ourselves to offer support to express our caring and concern for our friends overseas. Since the virus breakthrough expected, our engineer has designed some 3d printed models downloaded for people. Such as 3d printed buckles and have uploaded 3d printed glasses, and 3d printed masks so that users can print the model  And have started this activity of donating 50,000 pieces of free KN95 masks for our users. If you have bought Creality 3d printer previously no matter from anywhere, you can fill the form on our website for the free KN95 masks.
